OVERVIEW

Context

Many people follow specific diets due to health, ethical or personal reasons. However, eating out often makes it difficult to respect these dietary needs, creating frustration and limiting social experiences.

Goal

Design a digital solution that helps users identify suitable restaurants and adapt dishes to their dietary needs, while ensuring the system remains manageable for restaurant staff.

APPROACH

The project followed a Design Thinking process, combining user research, competitor analysis and iterative prototyping to explore how digital tools could support dietary needs within the restaurant experience. The process focused on identifying real user pain points while understanding operational constraints from the restaurant perspective.

01

Empathize

User interviews, competitor analysis and a SWOT analysis were conducted to understand user needs, market gaps and key product constraints.

02

Define

Research insights were synthesized into user personas, problem statements and UX requirements to define the product direction.

03

Ideate

Competitive usability evaluations were conducted to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities across existing solutions.

04

Prototype

Low-fidelity prototypes were developed, followed by the definition of the brand identity, design system and high-fidelity mockups.

05

Test

The prototype was evaluated through heuristic evaluation and think-aloud testing to identify usability issues and refine the experience.

OUTPUT

The project reframes how dietary needs are handled when eating out, from restriction to flexibility. It introduces a model that could make dining more inclusive for users while creating new opportunities for restaurants to adapt and differentiate their offering.

Dietary profile

Users define dietary restrictions, allergies and nutritional goals to personalize the experience.

Restaurant discovery

Restaurants can be filtered according to dietary compatibility and menu availability.

Dish customization

Users can modify ingredients and portions while staying within predefined restaurant constraints.

Menu transparency

Detailed information on ingredients and nutritional values supports more informed decisions.
